August 20, 2020
Dear PROW Members,
We sincerely regret not being able to hold our Annual General Meeting in person this year. Since 2008 the AGM has provided an opportunity for waterfront owners to elect a new board, hear presentations from a diverse group of speakers, discuss relevant issues and have an informal get-together with waterfront neighbours. We hope we will be able to return to our usual format next year.
In order to adhere to public health protocols and comply with our Bylaws we have decided to deliver a slate of Director nominees by email to our membership and hold a vote by Zoom meeting to be held on Tuesday, September 29 2020.
An invitation to the Zoom meeting will be circulated closer to the meeting date. If you wish to join our Executive, we invite you to reach out to us via the contact tab on our webpage at www.prow.ca. We will be pleased to add you to our slate of nominees and welcome you to our waterfront working group. You will see in the attached Notice of Meeting that all current directors have volunteered to stand for nomination for another year.
Since the 2019 AGM the executive has continued to meet every month, conducting our meetings via Zoom since the March “shut down.” We have continued to closely monitor activities which impact North Saanich waterfront property owners and to take action where appropriate.
This includes speaking to agenda items at Monday Council meetings (when the public can attend) and participating in District and community formed volunteer groups. We believe that our involvement and the networking opportunities arising from this activity have resulted in increased community support for important PROW issues.
PROW executives sit on the Community Planning Commission, Board of Variance, Community Stewardship Commission and Airport Authority Noise Management Commission. We are founding members of the FireSmart committee and the Saanich Inlet Protection Society, are members of the Saanich Peninsula Environmental Coalition and have representation on the executive of the North Saanich Residents Association.
We have also requested that PROW have representation on any community committee appointed for the upcoming District of North Saanich Official Community Plan review. Our participation in all these areas serves to inform our executive of developments and trends which might impact waterfront property owners. We then send notice of evolving issues we feel are important via email to our membership and use the website to provide public information from the PROW perspective.
Our executive works many volunteer hours and our expenses are incurred solely for third party costs. We do our best to keep the website current and have added an Interac e-Transfer option for contributions. AGM and public meeting costs, our post box, association registration fees and communication expenses form the majority of our annual expenses.
Continued financial contributions by our membership are necessary to ensure PROW continues to protect and enhance our North Saanich waterfront and remain a relevant community voice.
We thank you for your ongoing support!
On behalf of the Board of Directors
David Tonken, President
