Dear waterfront owners,
To assist you in deciding who to support in the 2024 provincial election, PROW recently sent a brief questionnaire on waterfront issues to all four candidates seeking to represent Saanich North and The Islands.
You can review their responses here:
This is the first time PROW has taken an active part in a provincial election. The current BC government has implemented new taxation policies that are impacting waterfront owners with foreshore leases. It has also launched UNDRIP legislation including proposed amendments to the BC Land Act, and the new Dock Management Plan proposed for the Pender Harbour area that is now the subject of a BC Supreme Court challenge.
In mid-September, the Pender Harbour and Area Residents Association (PHARA) filed a petition in the BC Supreme Court, challenging the proposed legislation as being unconstitutional. There was limited media coverage of the filing, possibly because the news cycle that day focused on Premier Eby’s carbon tax announcement, but PHARA forwarded one article to a PROW member:
We encourage you to check this article, and to review the candidate responses to the PROW questionnaire, as you consider which candidate to support in the 2024 election.
Sincerely,
Your PROW Executive
